Saint Patrick's Day at Mike O'Shays

March 17, 2008

Such fun tonight! There’s nothing like St Patrick's at O’Shay’s… except maybe the long-since squelched Boulder Mall Crawl on Halloween night. There must have been a bazillion people in O’Shay's, all having a tremendously fun time. The band met in the back office at 4PM, an hour before our first performance at 5PM. We had plenty of time to say our hellos, warm up our pipes, and tune. Our Pipe Sergeant, Pat Stillahn, was in the lead for the night and did a great job.

As we first struck in our pipes, cheers erupted from the crowd. Wow! It was loud! The roar echoed all the way down the back hall where we stepped off. We had to really wiggle, wedge, and force our way through the crowd to get to the landing where we were to play, especially tough for our new bass drummer, Jeff Cordsen. What a job for him! We played for about 20 minutes, each set ending with the roar of the crowd. They were a wonderful audience!

We had an hour off between performances. Just long enough for the corned beef and cabbage and Guinness that the bar treats us to every year. Fantastic food! After a tiny rest, it was time to tune and line up for our second performance. We played essentially the same tunes, but the crowd still appreciated each as if for the first time!
